Aldeneyck
The estate of Karel Henckens and his wife Tine is one of the most famous in Flanders. It takes its name from the village of the same name, not far from Maaseik. The plots of vines, with a total surface area of 10 hectares, stretch along the river Meuse. The stony and rocky soils are particularly rich in minerals and leave their mark on the wines. From the outset, the couple favoured the Pinot range, adding Chardonnay (quite common in Flanders) and, a rarer choice, Riesling. Karel Henckens is one of the driving forces behind Europe's only cross-border appellation, the Maasvallei Limburg PDO.
Pinot Blanc
Harvested by hand, the grapes remain in contact with the skins for three hours before being fermented in temperature-controlled stainless steel vats. Maturing lasts 6 months in stainless steel vats, with monthly stirring of the lees. Karel Henkens uses cross-flow filtration for all his wines, which allows him to "skip" the fining stage: his wines are therefore de facto vegan.
The Aldeneyck Pinot Blanc has around 5 grams of residual sugars (natural grape sugars, not transformed into alcohol during fermentation).
Golden colour of medium intensity.
Aromatic nose characterised by aromas of conference pear and gooseberry.
Round and crunchy mouth with a lot of relief.
Oysters and shellfish. Or simply as an aperitif.
8-10 °C
