Wijndomein Petrushoeve
The Petrushoeve winery was founded on a typical Brabant farmhouse with a square footprint, which dates back to 1519. Gerry Calders took over the farm with his family in 2010, after having worked successively in the horticultural sector (his training) and in the catering industry. He is now the most important winemaker in Flemish Brabant with 10 hectares in production, combining interspecific and traditional varieties. His ambitions do not stop there: he is aiming for 25 hectares and a production of 100,000 bottles within a few years. Gerry Calders practices sustainable agriculture and has banned herbicides. Not without a sense of humour, he has named his vintages P'TRUS, which could make some people in Pomerol cringe ...
Johanniter
Related by hybridization to the Riesling, the Johanniter has kept its rather straight profile, characterized by lemony notes. It is one of the most widely planted white interspecifics in Belgium and is the basis for the very fine Ô de Craie de Vin de Liège.
Gerry Calders aims to produce fresh wines with a nice minerality. This is the case with the 2021 Johanniter, which is harvested by hand, pressed in whole bunches and matured for several months on its fine lees in stainless steel vats.
Light yellow colour, nicely shiny.
The nose is dominated by floral (roses) and lemon aromas.
Good acidity and length.
Sushi is a good match for it, as are all seafood products.
8-10 °C
