Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen
Originally from the Netherlands, Jaap van Rennes settled in northern Belgium having made his fortune, like a number of his compatriots. A few years ago, he handed over the reins of the Wijnkasteel Genoels-Elderen vineyard to his daughter, Joyce, who studied oenology in France. So she is one of the few female winemakers in Belgium! With production covering 22 hectares, Genoels-Elderen is currently the largest winemaking domain in the country. Its wines, based on the emblematic grape varieties of Burgundy (Chardonnay and Pinot Noir), are of outstanding quality. The domain produces around 100,000 bottles a year.
Chardonnay Blauw
Chardonnay Blauw (“blue”) is the domain’s intermediate cuvée in dry white wines. It is vinified half in stainless steel tanks and half in French oak casks. It is then matured on lees with batonnage for a year (50% in tanks and 50% in casks). On the plots of land used for Chardonnay Blauw, the yield is limited to less than 40 hectolitres per hectare.
Pale gold robe.
The nose offers a blend of floral and fruity perfumes (yellow plums and ripe apples), with a hint of smoke.
In the mouth, the aromas of honey and pineapple blend with a buttery hint in the finish.
Perfect with grilled lobster or a carpaccio of bass.
12-14°C.
