Gloire de Duras
Apples, pears and grapes. Like Benoît Heggen from Domaine des Marnières (Warsage), Peter Nijskens was first (and remains) a fruit grower. The desire - or the need - to diversify his production led him to the vine in 2015, when he planted a little more than one hectare in Wilderen, near Sint-Truiden. This estate with a very Francophile name currently has 6.5 hectares spread over the communes of Wilderen and Duras, in Limburg, but also in Halle-Booienhoven, in Flemish Brabant. Peter has managed to unite his entire family - his wife Hilde and his three children - around this new wine adventure. Among the very many estates that are developing in Limburg, Gloire de Duras is without a doubt one of those whose reputation will soon be established.
Chardonnay
From the outset, Peter Nijskens favoured traditional grape varieties such as Chardonnay and Auxerrois, his specificity being to produce only still white wines. Grape varieties that flourish on the clay-limestone soils of the estate. The grapes are harvested by hand.
Gentle pressing in a pneumatic press, fermentation at low temperature, ageing in stainless steel tanks. Gloire de Duras "doubles" each wine: one is aged in stainless steel vats, the other in oak barrels. Those who know us know that wood is not our "cup of tea": we have therefore chosen wood-free wines, where nothing alters the exuberance of the fruit.
Golden and limpid colour.
Very aromatic nose of pineapple, quince and lime blossom..
The fruit dominates on the palate, with a nice acidity.
Perfect companion for a seafood platter or grilled fish.
8-10 °C
