Domaine Constant-Duquesnoy
Unlike many new Belgian winemakers, Gérard Constant did not fall for a captivating building – in other words, for real estate - but began by investing in the purchase of 12 hectares of vines in Vinsobres, in the Drôme department, about thirty kilometres to the north of Châteauneuf-du-Pape. What’s more, these weren’t just any vines: they were from the Domaine Les Ausellons, considered in his time by Parker to be "one of the three best properties" of the appellation. Gérard Constant has now also acquired plots in the Cairanne appellation.
Terra Rhona
The average age of the Grenache and Syrah vines used in this cuvé is more than 40 years. The vineyard lies on hillsides at an altitude of 300 metres. The grapes are harvested entirely by hand and undergo stringent sorting. The vinification takes place in themo-regulated tanks (maintained at 26 °C during fermentation) and the wine is matured in stainless steel tanks for eight months.
Dark red robe with mauve tints.
Aromatic bouquet dominated by red fruits and blackberries. Hints of spices.
Very balanced in the mouth, full bodied mi-palate, average length.
A fine grilled entrecôte, a slightly spicy pasta dish.
16-17°C.
