The story of his life should read "teacher". But the call of the sun and the desire for something different were stronger than the rest, and Guy Vanlancker left rainy Belgium as soon as he had his diploma to establish his destiny in a superb vineyard in La Livinière, the first appellation village in the Languedoc (1999). Twelve hectares are under production, including eight in the AOC Minervois La Livinière and Minervois. His cellar, which lies right at the heart of the village, is surrounded by thick walls from old fortifications. With his son Ambroise, who now works with him, Guy Vanlancker has embarked upon an organic certification process for the vineyard (label expected for 2021).

Why Not? Pinot Noir

And why not... plant Pinot noir at the foot of the Montagne Noire? The name of this cuvée is a friendly nod to the daring of Guy Vanlancker, who has “imported” Burgundy’s top grape variety into the Languedoc and grows his vines on a north-facing slope (whereas this is more a variety of the plains), so as to gain a little freshness. And the wager has proved successful, it must be said!

   Sparkling ruby red robe.

Aromas of summer fruit, with hints of leather and undergrowth.

Voluptuous in the mouth, with a great deal of freshness in the attack phase and a pleasant finish.

   Perfect with poultry or pasta.

   15°C
