Champagne Remue-Gaspard
In the late 1980s, Filip Remue left his native Flanders (Ninove) to settle in France, where he fell in love with Sophie Gaspard from Champagne. Based in Grauves, a few kilometers from Epernay, Champagne Remue-Gaspard farms around ten hectares of vines, divided between the Côte des Blancs, the Marne Valley and the Aube (Pinot Noir parcels). He sells a third of his production, averaging some 18,000 bottles a year. The remaining volume is sold to major Champagne houses such as Bollinger and Mumm. Filip trained on the job with his parents-in-law, before buying out the family business with his wife and expanding it considerably.
Filip Remue is also the father of Domaine du Chant d'Eole, and the man who contributed all the know-how needed to help it win the supreme distinction at the Concours Mondial de Bruxelles ("best bubble in the world" for Cuvée Prestige 2014). In 2019, he sold his shares to the majority shareholder, the Ewbank de Wespin family, on whose land the estate's vines are planted - now the Kingdom's second largest with 29 hectares in production. However, Filip Remue has not completely disappeared from the Belgian wine scene, as he is now consultant to the Marquise de Moulbaix estate, near Ath, whose 3 hectares of vines were harvested for the first time in 2020. The estate's first sparkling wine is expected in 2022. The château and its vineyards belong to a wealthy Ghent family, the Govaerts.
Champagne Remue-Gaspard Brut
A blend of Chardonnay and Pinot Noir, this is the estate's main cuvée. This lively, harmonious champagne spends around two years on laths before being disgorged.
